Mobile Friendly Website Developers – Google Announces Higher Ranking for Mobile Friendly Websites

Google Posted an article on February 26, 2015 announcing they will be giving mobile friendly websites higher Ranking in the Search Engine Results, beginning April 21, 2015

This is no surprise because in mid 2013 Google announced that it did not want the public to build separate mobile websites. Instead, Google wants us all to use a technology called Responsive Design Websites. With Responsive Design, the one desktop website changes the size and position of content to the screen size of the device viewing the website.

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal” ~ Google

Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.

To get help with making a mobile-friendly site, check out our guide to mobile-friendly sites. If you’re a webmaster, you can get ready for this change by using the following tools to see how Googlebot views your pages:

How to test your website for Mobile Friendliness?

Drag the right browser window toward the left browser window, making your viewable portion of your website smaller. If you see a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of your window, your website does not have Responsive Design.

If you access your website from a mobile phone, and you get redirected to a website dedicated to just mobile traffic, your website does not have Responsive Design, and will also be demoted on Google Searches.

You can also Test to see if your website is mobile friendly, by using Google’s new Testing Tool.

How to Upgrade to a Responsive Design Website

Most good Content Management Systems, like Site-Ninja.com and WordPress.com, have Responsive Design built into them. Be careful to note, just because you have a WordPress website does not mean you have a mobile friendly, or Responsive Design website. I recommend you have a professional Webmaster or Website Designer look at your site and let you know what the cost would be to upgrade your website. If you have an older website, you may also have other issues that need to be fixed to bring your website into current Html standards and current design standards. Remember, your website is a reflection of you and your business. If it’s old and tired, then your visitors will think you are old and tired.
